Nebraska Cancer Specialists is continuously striving to create a comfortable environment for our patients seeking care for their oncology and hematology needs.  The Supportive Care Nurse Practitioner is a new addition for the practice and the person hired will be expected to create and build the program for the practice.  

Position Summary: Provide pain and symptom management for patients with oncologic or hematological conditions in collaboration with a physician and in accordance with Nebraska Cancer Specialists policies and procedures.

Will work closely with the patient and caregivers to help relieve suffering and provide the best possible quality of life.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides expert care that improves the quality of life of the patients and their families through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification, assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, including physical, psychosocial and spiritual.
  2. Offer a support system to the help patients be as active as possible.
  3. Uses a team approach to address the needs of patients and their families.
  4. Creates an improved communication between patients and physicians.
  5. Helps patients achieve a quality of life and positively influence the course of the illness.
  6. Help patients make informed decisions and establish goals for their care.
  7. Provide support to the care givers.
  8. Be available in the early course of the illness, in conjunction with other therapies, to manage distressing clinical complications.
  9. Demonstrates compassion, excellence, respect and integrity to patients, families, care givers and other staff.

Additional Functions:

  • Assumes responsibility for professional development; participates in the orientation and teaching of new NP’s, nurses and staff.
  • Participates in community and activities to promote Nebraska Cancer Specialists.

Education and/or Experience:  Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) with completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program and certification is required. Must be current and in good stanting with  DHHS- State of Nebraska licensure. Oncology experience preferred.
