Job Title: Staff Site Reliability Engineer

Compensation: $145,000 - $170,000

The Job:

The Staff Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is responsible for helping our engineering team reach the next level. Our Site Reliability Engineers have the mission of creating a system that continuously delivers software, ultra-scalable and highly reliable. Using all available tools and practices, the Staff Site Reliability Engineer mentors other engineers, ensuring the reliable delivery of software services.

What You Will Do:

• Participate in enhancing Buildertrend’s SRE principles and practices while positively mentoring other team members and promoting team growth. You will develop proof of concepts for our scalable platforms then execute plans on implementing them with the team.
• Setting precedence and leading by example through spearheading continuous integration and delivering best practices for the platform. Production deployments should be continuous, seamless, and defect-free.
• Demonstrate and promote industry standards on delivering software to customers with minimal negative impact and frequent execution.
• Model the telemetry footprint and monitoring analysis for scalable solutions across the platforms.
• Develop reusable patterns for automation. Platform incidents should have a layer of automation on them before human intervention.
• Identify and improve global scalability & high availability of Buildertrend’s systems.
• Create relationships that build ownership across teams that spawn innovation.
• Promote best practices, introduce new technologies, and teach others.
• Embrace risk, quantify failure and availability in a prescriptive manner, and participate in blameless postmortems.
• Participate in on-call rotation. Primary on-call is typically one-week periods, followed by a secondary week. After-hours pages are scarce, but can happen.

Who You Are and What You Need:

• Bachelors degree required.
• 15+ years of experience in a related engineering role required.
• Experience with continuously deploying web applications to production with thousands of active users.
• Source Control / Continuous Integration / Deployment (Git, Octopus Deploy, Azure DevOps).
• Incident resolution through scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
• Telemetry Experience: Application and Server Monitoring (Datadog, NewRelic, AppInsights), Alerting (PagerDuty, Pingdom, Cloud native alerting).
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Data storage (SQL, Redis, MongoDB).
• Containerization (Docker).
• Automated Cloud Resource Provisioning (Terraform).
