Director, Enterprise Security

OPPD is seeking a dynamic, seasoned Director, Enterprise Security  to lead our Corporate Security division initiatives.  This role is  responsible for developing and overseeing the organization's security strategy to protect its employees, customers, assets, operations, and reputation. This role leads a multidisciplinary team to design, implement, and maintain effective security policies, systems, and protocols that address physical, cyber, and related operational challenges. The Director, Enterprise Security also serves as the primary liaison with external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, regulators, and industry partners, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. The successful delivery of these critical services requires strong relationships with the TS Leadership Team and strategic business partners across OPPD. This role serves on the CIO¿s leadership team and helps uphold OPPD¿s shared mission, vision, core values, and leadership principles.

 

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute the department's strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Provide leadership, vision, and direction to the corporate security function, including physical security, cybersecurity and disaster recovery activities.
  • Foster a culture of physical and digital security awareness by maintaining, communicating and continuously improving a comprehensive training program.
  • Regularly assess security risks and propose mitigation strategies to executive and senior leadership and ensure the organization's readiness to address evolving cyber threats.

Compliance and Regulatory Management:

  • Ensure adherence to all local, national, industry and international laws and regulations related to corporate security and data protection.
  • Establish and maintain cybersecurity policies and procedures in compliance with industry standards, legal and regulatory requirements.

Management of People - Effectively lead and manage the team.

  • Build and maintain a competent team of professionals through effective recruiting, selection, and ongoing development.
  • Provide coaching and feedback opportunities to staff to continuously improve their competency in the performance of their work.

Management of Work - Drive and oversee the performance of functions of Corporate Security in support of strategic and district level initiatives.

  • Directs the staff in the evaluation, design, development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of technologies when Corporate Security is the Technical Owner. Ensure these implementations are done in a way that meet company standards, goals, security, and auditing requirements. 
  • Develop protocols for incident response that align to OPPD's emergency management organization.
  • Lead investigations into security breaches, threats, or incidents and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Lead a threat assessment methodology in collaboration with human resources and legal operations. 
  • Collaborate with Enterprise leadership to ensure robust protection of digital infrastructure, data, and intellectual property.
  • Develop and maintain a business continuity plan for all areas of responsibility.
  • Directs the team to perform assigned Business and Technical Ownership responsibilities such as life cycle management, maintenance tasks, disaster recovery and routine/emergency patching.

Collaboration and Stakeholder EngagementBe an active leader that drives a culture that embraces OPPDs core values and is focused on safety/security, service excellence, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

  • Act as the primary security advisor to Executive Leadership Team, senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as the spokesperson for the organization's security strategy and initiatives when engaging with external partners or media (if applicable).

Maintain and evolve relationships with law enforcement, government agencies, and security-focused organizations.

Qualifications

 

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree; Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in corporate security, law enforcement, military or cybersecurity; Minimum 8 years of experience managing/leading teams; or a combination of education and work experience that provides the necessary skills to perform the essential job functions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of physical security systems, cybersecurity best practices, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, threats, and mitigation strategies.
  • Proven ability to manage complex security operations that supports critical infrastructure in a multi-site environment.
  • Experience with budgeting, resource allocation, and vendor management. 
  • Effective and experienced at communicating and interacting with Executives and Board members. 
  • Must be a dedicated team player with a proven track record of collaborating with team members and colleagues from across an organization while establishing and delivering against commitments on key initiatives.
  • Must be a trusted leader who can effectively develop, manage, and coach a diverse team and workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large/complicated projects and solve complex technical and business problems while ensuring the associated organizational change management activities are successfully performed
  • Excellent customer service and stakeholder relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills - must be able to communicate clearly and professionally, orally and in writing, across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information, excellent judgment, discretion, and diplomacy.

 

Desired: 

  • Master's Degree, preferably in a related field.
  • Industry recognized professional certification(s) in relevant areas of focus.
  • Experience working in the utility or manufacturing industry.
  • Experience working with NERC standards, policies, and procedures
