Position Qualification

Position Summary
The Department of Neurological Sciences (DONS) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks an Academic Epileptologist (MD or MD/PhD). The candidate must be BC/BE and have 1-2 years of accredited fellowship training in adult or pediatric epilepsy. The ideal recruit would have a proven academic record and be a key member of an inpatient/outpatient clinical care team with a strong research emphasis. The UNMC Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is a Level 4 regional epilepsy center (National Association of Epilepsy Centers guidelines) with an 8 private bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, treating adults and children. The Program has an active surgical arm with dedicated adult and pediatric neurosurgeons, averaging 30-40 epilepsy surgeries, 50-75 VNS implantations yearly, and one of the largest Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS) programs in the nation. The Magnetoencephalography (MEG) center provides vital contribution to the epilepsy program and translational research activities. Call is shared between epileptologists and advanced practice providers support inpatient. The outpatient ambulatory care opportunities include telehealth and outreach clinics for rural areas. Teaching opportunities include training of the Epilepsy Fellow and rotating Neurology Residents. Research opportunities include independent or mentored integration into the robust translational and clinical research programs at DONS. Academic rank is commensurate with qualifications.
